Christmas Gifts for Triathletes, Runners and Cyclists

With 2024 just around the corner, this is the time of year where fitness obsessed individuals and daily athletes begin looking ahead to challenges and goals for the new year. January is a time where resolutions are made, gauntlets are laid down and expectations are at an all time high. This time of optimism is where anything seems achievable, and plans are made to conquer even the most challenging fitness ambitions.

While you (as a partner, sibling, friend, or family member) may not be able to physically help the athlete in your life attain these new goals, there are certain ways that you can support. Instead of gifting them Rich Roll’s ‘Finding Ultra’ book or getting them a pair of running socks that will no doubt spend weeks at the bottom of their laundry pile, consider thoughtful gifts for athletes in your life. These gifts provide practical solutions and can be utilized everyday to enhance their athletic performance and reduce recovery times. By incorporating these items into their routine, athletes can extend their endurance, maintain consistency, and undoubtedly make progress toward achieving their ambitious fitness resolutions. Keep reading for some unique gift ideas for triathletes, runners, swimmers, and cyclists that we GUARENTEE will have a positive impact day in and day out.

First things first, let’s understand the importance of a proper recovery routine and the impact that these gifts for athletes can have in the long term.

Resolutions, Consistency and The Importance of Post Workout Recovery

As we know, many resolutions are made, and then broken in January. A gyms busiest day of the year is January 2^nd, however if you go in on February 2^nd a lot of these people will be no where to be seen. Their resolution broken within a month of setting it. This often happens when people are either too lofty in their expectations, or they do not understand the importance of consistency and compounding incremental gains. Too many people want to see immediate improvements and success overnight, when the reality is these improvements can take weeks, if not months, to develop. Another common reason for failed (or broken) resolutions is not having the right tools, equipment, products, or processes in place to properly implement the challenge being laid out. This is where we come in. Whether the athlete in your life is trying to run a PB 10km in 2024 or trying to build the ultimate triathlete body, 1Hour-After offers products that allow daily athletes bodies to refuel, rehydrate and recover properly after a grueling workout. Let’s break it down a bit more.

People everywhere these days bemoan the importance of a morning routine. Everywhere you look you see successful individuals talking about hot and cold therapy, being exposed to early morning sunlight, and taking their AG1 or greens supplements before kick starting their day. While this is all well and good, not enough people talk specifically about their post workout recovery routine, which is arguably more important when wanting to be able to turn up and train day in day out. While there is some mention of stretching, ice baths and supplementation – one organ is always neglected in these discussions. The Skin. Being the largest organ in the body, it stands to reason that the skin needs special attention when it comes to post workout recovery care. It also is a direct pathway to the muscles, so having a robust post workout body care routine will stand you in good stead and put you on a better path to complete recovery, and in turn, achieving your fitness objectives.

So, what does a post workout body care routine look like? Luckily, it doesn’t involve any steps that you are not already doing. Just different products. When we workout, we sweat. When we sweat, we lose crucial vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that we need to function properly. Without replenishing what is lost, our overall health and performance will suffer, limiting the speed of recovery and return to homeostasis. The hour after you workout, your body (& skin) is the most open and receptive it will be all day. What you do in this hour, will go further towards recovery than anything else. Unfortunately, traditional body care brands (Dove, Old Spice, Native, Axe etc.) do not factor what is lost through sweat into their product formulas. They pack these products with (sometimes artificial) cleansing agents and fragrance to make you feel and smell clean but do not help replace electrolytes, vitamins and minerals that have just been excreted. This means that in terms of recovery, these products offer no benefit. 1Hour-After body care products are scientifically formulated with daily athletes in mind. These powerful formulations contain a blend of ingredients, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and electrolytes that help the body refuel, rehydrate, and recover quicker than before. Our products help strengthen damaged hair and skin, rehydrate, and moisturize while also helping reduce inflammation, redness, and delayed onset muscle soreness. As previously mentioned, these products can make great practical gifts for athletes, triathletes, runners, swimmers, cyclists and more!

Which Products for Which Discipline?

When considering gift ideas for triathletes or athletes in general, it is important to consider what event they typically compete in. While our products are suitable for all active people, certain athletes will get more benefits out of these products than others.

For example, the unique challenges that a triathlete's skin faces, such as exposure to fresh or salt water, intense sweating, prolonged sun exposure, and various other environmental elements means that focus on a proper skincare regime is of paramount importance. Compare this to a swimmer who is often exposed to chlorine pools, might mean that a focused and targeted hair care routine is of more importance. Regardless, the impact of sweat on the skin and hair remains the same. It depletes it of moisture, dries it out and exposes it to environmental damage. All of which, traditional store-bought body care products do not address. 1Hour-After products, however, were formulated for this specific purpose. See below for our informational guide on which products we recommend as gifts for athletes in your life:

• 1Hour-Afters Adaptogen Shampoo: this is a perfect gift idea for triathletes or swimmers who expose their hair to fresh water, salt water or chlorine in the pursuit of greatness. The replenishing power of amino acids help hydrate and strengthen the hair while aloe and vitamin B5 calm the scalp, add volume, and help retain moisture.
• 1Hour-Afters Strengthening Protein Conditioner: used in tandem with the adaptogen shampoo, this strengthening protein conditioner utilizes hydrolyzed pea proteins and panthenol to strengthen the hair while also incorporating a blend of essential oils and Vitamin E to moisturize, rehydrate and soften broken hair strands.
• 1Hour-Afters Cooling Menthol Body Wash: This product can be used for anyone from an Ironman athlete with the perfect triathlete body to an everyday gym hero. No one likes coming out of the gym feeling hot and sweaty even after their post workout shower. This menthol-based body wash helps to cool and calm the skin, reducing redness while the Zinc in the formula also helps fight inflammation and post workout soreness.
• 1Hour-Afters Refueling Magnesium Body Lotion: this is the big one, the gamechanger in gifts for athletes. Magnesium is quickly becoming a super ingredient in the pursuit of recovery. Its benefits go beyond just reducing inflammation and post workout soreness and delve into sleep benefits and improved metabolism. When applied topically onto the skin magnesium can alleviate aches, pains, and cramps, meaning that your body will be ready quicker for its next workout.
